DYLAN KAIN

When this bag was first placed in front of me at a meeting recently, I was simply taken by its unique style and quality and now since learning more about this newly launched leather accessories label, founded on a collaboration between sisters; Bonnie Davis and Whitney Gilmore, I can see why Dylan Kain are fast becoming a much wanted brand. Click here to buy; Dylan Kain Ryder Bag

SA: TELL US THE STORY ABOUT HOW DYLAN KAIN STARTED?

DK: A handbag is the ultimate exclamation point to any style and we were hard pressed to find one that we really liked, one that gave us that rush. We wanted to collaborate on something as sisters that reflected our individual styles, and our brand philosophy reflects our relationship as much as it does the designs, "Proportion and control, an attractive temper, a feeling of electricity a pulse within reach."

SA: WHATS INSPIRED YOUR COLLECTIONS? DO YOU HAVE ANY STYLE ICONS?

DK: We have a lot of great women around us in New York and in Australia, so they inadvertedly become our muses. You know when a design is right when they are as passionate about the style as we are. To name one right now, it would be Charlotte Kemp Muhl. She is inspiring for her nonchalant approach to luxury - her beauty and style does not follow an ideal. She does it her own way and our designs have the same foundation. Dylan Kain is about creating a brand that reflects what we love and want to wear - 10 years from now - as well as today.

SA: WHAT DOES 2013 HOLD FOR DYLAN KAIN?

DK: We have some exciting projects in the works in New York for early this year. A collaboration, our second collection, and we are excited to unveil a new campaign come June.

SA: THE BAGS ARE AMAZNG - WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE?

DK: Leather, but firstly it has to look so good that you can't resist touching it. We are lucky to work with some great tanneries that supply amazing leathers and suede’s. We choose leathers that wear well and can take some hard knocks and look all the better for it. We took time to choose a gold for our signature hardware that was light and fresh, we wanted to steer clear of any yellow or orange tones. It is the perfect shade and offers a slight rose tint in certain light. Silver hardware is also available in every style.
